Carl-Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs (1911-1996) was a Finnish furniture designer who headed his own furniture factory, Puunveisto, in Helsinki from the 1940s to the 1970s. He believed in handcrafted furniture production of high quality. As adesigner he was ahead of his time in developing impressive plywood furniture of sculpturally curved forms. The high quality of the furniture and its design aroused major international demand already in the 1950s. In 2015, Fasetti, a Finnish family-owned company, acquired the rights to the designs and manufacturing of furniture by Hiort af Ornäs and began to reissue
them. The most famous piece of the collection is Siesta lounge chair from 1952. Siesta’s elegant language of form is a pleasure to view from all angles. As in all furniture by Hiort af Ornäs comfort is in a class of its own and the curving shape of the backrest creates a cosy mood.
All the Ornäs products are 100% handmade in Finland.
